5K on the Greenway draws more than 270 runners

(The hanging chad is the fact that Kenneth and I finished in a dead heat, what an awesome race. We came across the line very close together and neither of us knew who would be in front. I think it was another case of the hanging chad. OK Kenneth, this Saturday we hit it again in Galax. I am training with the intention of winning this week.)

On a bright and sunny Saturday morning, the 5k race set a record with 220 participants registered, and runners from across North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia participated.

The event featured a 5K run-walk and a 1/2-mile fun run afterward.

Aaron Bowman of Mount Airy ran the top time in the 5K, posting a 16:06.

The top female runner in the event was Allison Peters of Kernersville. She posted a time of 19:55.

“Reeves Community Center Foundation and Mount Airy Junior Women’s Club would like to thank everyone who came out and participated,” event organizer Darren Lewis said. “Thanks to all the sponsors and media coverage in this family event. The excitement was great.

“What a better way to spend your Saturday morning with family and friends.”
