I logged my first 6.3 miles in 2011

On Monday afternoon I logged the first 6.3 miles of the New Year. It is my goal to run at least a thousand miles this year and this leaves me 994 to run. There were weeks in 2010 where I logged above 40 miles and I expect there will be this year also but right now I am just catching each opportunity that I can to get out the door. It is difficult in the winter months but I just have to get the shoes on and go.

The temperature yesterday was 46 and that is really a great temp. Shorts, long sleeves and a hat and you are good to go.

I am reading a book called “Craving God”, and it is just what I need in starting this New Year right. Here are a couple of quotes from the book.

“God made us capable of craving so that we’d have an unquenchable desire for more of Him, and Him alone.”

“My journey to healthy eating didn’t gain traction by counting calories or obeying rules of the food pyramid. The process began in earnest when I admitted that, yes, I was overweight physically. But, more importantly, I was underweight spiritually. I was spiritually malnourished. Tying these two issues together is what opened my eyes to see God in a whole new way.”

“Thought for the Day: God made us capable of craving so we’d have an unquenchable desire for more of Him, and Him alone. Nothing changes until we make the choice to redirect our misguided cravings to the only One capable of satisfying them.”

It really is all about God, this is His story and He has included us in His story. he has given us life and for those who trust in Him, we will live forever. Our life here is preparation for eternity in heaven. Let’s live disciplined.

Like you said you were in the past, I too am physically over weight and spiritually undernourished. Any extra advice you can give me to help me become vice versa (less physical weight and more spiritually nourished)would be greatly appreciated. I especially could use advice on how to use spiritual nourishment for motivation to exercise (and where I live outside walking isn’t a great idea. I’d have to drive somewhere for that.)
