Book Notes: Fusion by Nelson Searcy

Fusion is the third really good book I have read by Nelson Searcy. Nelson is is the founding pastor of The Journey Church of the City in New York, New York, which reaches more than 1100 twenty- and thirty-somethings each week. Over the last three years, Nelson has personally trained more than 1100 church planters through his own seminars and training events with Saddleback Church in California.

Fusion is about “assimilation” or getting people who come through the doors of our churches connected to the body of Christ, rooted and grounded on a firm foundation.

The great thing I love about this book is the ideas I gleaned. Nelson goes through the book giving you a plan for moving a guest from the street to the seat and back for the second time. But it doesn’t stop there. There is also a plan for getting people through to the membership process and beyond. Then at the end of the book you are encouraged to just get started, you don’t have to be able to do everything that is suggested in the book, just start where you can.

I found this to be the best book to date I have read on getting guests back to church a second time, third time, and even on to membership. Our church is going to pick up the ball and start where we are and run with it.

5 out of 5 stars.

“Gifts from God are given freely-and strategically-and God expects us to handle what we’ve been given with the same strategic care. First-time guests are extraordinary gifts full of unparalleled potential.” Nelson Searcy
