Book Notes: The Purpose Of Christmas by Rick Warren

Purpose of Christmas

This is a great book and would make an outstanding Christmas gift for just about anyone, the committed Christian and the person on your list who is not a follower of Christ. It is just about impossible to deny the existence of Christ when you look at th evidence of just the Christmas season alone. Don’t misunderstand me, this is not a book that sets out to prove the existence of Christ but the words that are in the first couple of chapters and so rich and relevant to this point.

Here is a page from the book:

“Other holidays get a single day, but Christmas is emphasized for an entire month, one twelfth of every year. During the Christmas season, billions of people set aside their normal routines to decorate their homes, send out greeting cards, buy gifts, go to Christmas parties, attend church services, sing Christmas songs, watch Christmas TV specials, and travel long distances to be with their families. Christmas sights and sounds fill the air everywhere. There are stores, and even careers, that are exclusively dedicated to preparing for and celebrating this holiday. When Christmas comes, you can’t miss it. It’s everywhere.”

I would recommend this book to you as a family this Christmas. Let’s get back to what Christmas is all about. It is about God, His birth as a human into the world He created. His entry into this world so that we might understand Him better. Rick Warren helps us to understand Him better and this is a One Sitting Book, not very long but very fulfilling.

Why do you celebrate Christmas, whose birthday is it anyway?
