Social Media and the Church

Social Media

I have been using Social Media now for what seems a lifetime but in reality is has only been a few years.

Our world today changes at such a fast pace that we in the church cannot afford to put down deep roots in anything except the unchanging Word of God. God and His Word will stand forever the same, we know that, we believe that, and we love that. Everything in our world changes at such a fast pace, it is comforting to know that we can go to God and His Word every day and know that it will not change.

With that being said, we in the church need to learn to swim in the sea of change in the ways that we share the gospel, the way that we design worship services, and the way that we meet the needs of those who do not yet believe.

I have been using Social Media for a number of years now and it has been the catalyst for my ministry to the people in my community and even to some who are at a distance. It all started with a dare from a youth member to begin a MySpace  page and from that I embraced the possibilities and the multitude of opportunities to reach out to people, the masses of people who use Social Media.

With the help of Social Media we have had a very successful youth ministry that eventually developed into a new church start. Through Social Media I am a better pastor to the 350 plus who call Out of the Box their church home. Through Social Media 2 more churches have been inspired and started in other states across the Country.

I was asked this week to share with the United Methodist Clergy in my District how Social Media has worked in my ministry and in our church at Out of the Box and I am blessed to see several of the folks who were there already more involved in using this valuable tool.

Stay tuned for future posts and if you have an event coming up and would like someone to come and talk about the benefits of sharing the Gospel through the use of Social Media feel free to contact me. ronnie24317@yahoo.com or ronnie24317 on FB and twitter.
