Book Review – “Jesus Prom” by Jon Weece

Jesus PromI was asked to review this book and I had already purchased it at the prompting of a friend. However, until I was asked to review it I really didn’t have the motivation that I needed to pick it up and actually read it. To be honest the title of the book threw me off, it wasn’t appealing to me and I hadn’t even read the tag line that reads as follows.

Life gets fun when you love people like God does

I am a preacher who has been transformed or at least in the process of transformation from a Pharisee to being like Jesus. For years I just didn’t get it. Jesus said salvation is a Free Gift. Jesus told us there was nothing we could do to be good enough to get to heaven. Jesus explained that He had to die in order that we might have life, and I just didn’t get it for a lot of years.

But I finally do get it. Now God is immersing me in the fact that we are Him to this world. We are the hands and feet of Jesus. If people are going to ever know that God loves them it won’t happen by us telling them, they have heard it too much. It will happen when we show people that we love them with the love of Christ.

The prom comes in late in the book. The author tells the story of their church hosting a prom for an awesome group of people who never got to actually have a high school prom. It really is an awesome story and it is worth waiting for. I tell you this because some of you may be like me and just not get the title.

This book is a page turner. Only read it if you like getting out of your comfort zone because as you read it you will be moved to action. You will not be able to sit by and just read it. Matter of fact there are a few places in the book where the author says, “put down the book and go do what you just learned.”

I hear God speaking through this book. It is very well written. It is funny and there are sad parts. I have laughed and I have shed some tears and maybe even in opposite places that you will. I plan to ask every person in the church that I pastor to read this book. I’m not going to preach a series called Jesus Prom, I’m going to live the message of this book in my community. It’s the message of Jesus.

I started the book on the afternoon of November 17th and I finished it in less than 4 hours reading time, couldn’t put it down.

If you read this book and remain the same, you’re in need of life support, spiritual life support.
