January 20th is almost here and our Country will inaugurate the 45th President of The United States, Donald J Trump. As in every election there have been people who are not happy and further, some who will never be happy with the way this election turned out.
But it has been decided and no amount of protesting or criticizing, or arm chair anything is going to change the results.
As Christians we need to put Christ first before ever expression our feelings, thoughts, and ideas about this or any other topic. By this I mean that we are to choose our words wisely and to first do no harm.
We have an electoral process that is the same for everyone. There will always be people elected to office we feel we can get behind and vote for and likewise there will be those elected that we choose not to vote for. But when the ballots are cast and the election is done we need to do everything in our power to support our Country. That usually means that we try and find ways to work together and not ways to criticize and cast insults. Elections are meant to unify us in moving forward not to cause us to choose sides and fight.
Here is what the Bible teaches us we should do whether we think this person is a Godly person or not.
#1. We can and should pray for him.
I Peter 2:13-14, 17 NLT
13 For the Lord’s sake, submit to all human authority—whether the king as head of state, 14 or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honor those who do right. 17 Respect everyone, and love the family of believers.[j] Fear God, and respect the king.
I Timothy 2:1-3 NLT
I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior.
Every day we need to pray for our leaders. Not just the President but the governors, the legislative branches, even your pastor or the person who is your leader on the job.
When we pray for our leaders it pleases God. And when we criticize, call names, and work against our leaders it displeases God.
Who was emperor when Peter and Paul wrote these words? None other than one of the most notorious political leaders of history, Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, known generally simply as Nero. What kind of ruler was Nero? He murdered his mother and both of his wives, for starters. But his grotesque brutality far transcended his immediate family. According to the Roman historian Tacitus, after fire had consumed roughly half of Rome and his popularity was in free-fall, Nero decided to blame the fire on Christians. Tacitus records that, among other things, the early Roman followers of Jesus “were covered with the skins of wild animals and then torn apart by dogs, some were crucified, some were burned at torches to light as night” (The One Year Christian History, p. 322). Pray for his health and safety.
Pray that he will govern justly and fairly.
Pray that he will seek God and Godly council in every matter of his presidency.
And finally, pray that he will seek to unify our Country. Pray that he will work to bring us together and that race will not be at issue. Every person who has ever walked the face of this earth is a person made in the image of God our Father. It does not matter what the color of a persons skin is, God created us all and we are equal and shame on us if we name the name of Christ and treat people differently because of skin color.
In 4 years we will do this all over again and I hope that we will be Christlike, no matter who is elected.
