Blessings To Share

On Sunday, October 5th, First United Methodist Church Hillsville held their annual Blue Ridge Mountain Bike Blessing event. There was a meal and music by SouledOut after the worship service.  There were 32 bikes in attendance.  The ride was 100 miles, covering Mount Airy, Sparta, Elkin, & Independence.  God gave us a beautiful day of sweet fellowship and safety!  Here is a little bit about the day…

The pews were filled to capacity with leather and bikers as Pastor Ty Harrison preached the message.  During the service, little Davis Reitzel rode a toy trike down the aisle, revving and beeping along the way.  This little trike was donated to the Carroll Christmas Fund as a gift for a needy child this Christmas.  There was also another very special donation given by the Motorcycle Ministry…a new Dora the Explorer bicycle complete with training wheels and a helmet.  This bicycle will go to Skylar Paige Sain, of Laurel Fork.  Skylar is a sweet 4 year old girl who is in need of a liver transplant.  She is currently receiving very special care at Duke Hospital.  The little red bicycle was placed  next to the late Carl Harmon’s “ Police Officer Special” Electraglide Harley Davidson.   The contrast between the two was great.  A little red bike for a 4 year old, and big, loud, black Harley, that was being ridden in memory of Carl Harmon by his brother Joe and sister-in-law Ann.   There was a crowd of bikers gathered around the bikes as Pastor Ty spoke and prayed.   There was a hush over the crowd and all bikers present were humbled by Carl’s memory and by the precious life of little Skylar Sain.  The contrast was great, but the unity was one, love; a love that can only come from Christ.  The Holy Spirit was present and moving among the crowd as tears flowed and hearts came together in prayer.  As both bikes were blessed, a bible, biker patch, and towel were placed in the little knapsack on the Dora Bike for little Skylar.

It was a somber moment.

This bike will be given to Skylar at the benefit dinner for her on October 12 at noon at the VFW.  Please plan to attend!
