The following is from Laura and it tells the story of her passion to put shoes on the feet of children in Nicaragua. You can join her group “Shoes for Marvin” here:

More than 100,000 Nicaraguan children do not receive the most minimal education because they are ashamed to attend school in their bare feet.

On March 10, 2009 I had the pleasure of meeting Marvin Aviles. He is 6 years old and lives in Managua, Nicaragua. Nicaragua is the 2nd poorest country in all of the Americas. Children face the reality of poverty every single day of their lives.

Marvin is the son of a prostitute. His mother works every night to provide for her family of three children.

Marvin has one pair of shoes.

After meeting Marvin and building a relationship with him it is more than my goal, more than my desire, it is my PASSION to make sure he gets shoes.

and it is the passion of this organization to make sure all children in Nicaragua have shoes. 🙂

If you’d like to become a member – GREAT! we’d love to have you. And if you’d like more information – that’s great too! emails can be sent to laura789@vt.edu

“When statistics have a face and poverty becomes personal, that’s what messes with you. Don’t stand at a safe distance. It’s a beautiful thing when people in poverty are no longer just a missions project, but become friends and family with whom we laugh, cry, dream, and struggle”
