“Fearless” by Max Lucado

Just finished reading “Fearless” by Max Lucado and I highly recommend this book.

In this book Max focuses on God’s greatness, His provision, His Love, and the fact that over and over again Jesus says to us. “Do Not be Afraid.” In 2009 when things tend to look like gloom and doom we do not have to live in fear of job layoffs, financial pits and even health fears.

Here are a few of the nuggets I found in the book.

It is because we have so much that we fear losing it.

People who live in fear cannot give to others because they fear there will be no return.

In chapter 6 of the book, “I’m Sinking Fast”, Max relates the story of the disciples being out on the Sea of Galilee when a storm arose and later Jesus came to them walking on the water. He points out the fact that the disciples whould have never called on him if they had not been in a storm. We don’t look for Jesus in our storms and that is where we find Him most because that is most often when we feel the need and call on Him.

Look for Jesus in your storms!

In chapter 7 “Fear of the Worst Case Sceneraios” Max encourages us to bring our fears into the light and they will disappear. Fears like vampires can’t stand the sunlight. Jesus made His fears public, He prayed and He shared his concerns with His disciples. We need to learn to do the same.

Just about every fear that a person can face is covered in this book. Max is a great writer with both the poetic form that keeps you glued to the page and the theological truth that keeps drawing you closer to the God who created you and doesn’t want any of us to live in fear.

This is a great book, everyone should read this book.
