I don’t know what it is about the Salem Lake Trail race that causes me to be sick but it does. I have run 7 Marathons @ 26.2 Miles and have never been sick. I have run the Salem Lake 30K two years now and been sick both times after the run. Its not much fun standing on the side of the road hurling as traffic passes by but what is a guy to do.
Anyway, yesterday was a PR for me. I ran every step of the 18.6 miles. The other race close was the Nashville Country Music Marathon several years ago where I ran 17 without stopping. I am pumped, excited, ready to go for another Marathon soon.
I am thankful for my friend Kenneth that I get the opportunity to run with a couple times each week. We run close to the same pace and that makes for a good training partner. It was really fun yesterday, when I would hit a runners wall, Kenneth would get out front and lead and then when Kenneth would hit a wall, I would get out front and lead. It really is team work and so much easier to do when you have someone by your side to cheer and prod you on.
I don’t have the official results yet, hopefully later today. My Garmin GPS registered an average pace of 9:35 for the 18.6 miles with an overall time of 2 hours 56 minutes.
It was perfect weather, light rain and cool. Much of the time we were sheltered by the trees on the trail so it wasn’t a constant rain. Praising God for a great day!
