A Message From the Director
It’s crunch time with the Atlanta Marathon and Half Marathon just five weeks away.  This also means just a few more weeks are left for runners to register for this great Thanksgiving Day tradition.  If you have friends or family that are still interested in participating in the Atlanta Marathon and Half Marathon, be sure they sign up soon.  Entry fees for both the marathon and half marathon increase on November 1 and online registration closes on November 22.  Enjoy the cool fall weather, and happy training!

Half Marathon PictureBeat the Price Increase!

Have friends or family that haven’t signed up for the Atlanta Marathon and Half Marathon yet?  Make sure they don’t miss out on all the fun!  Remind them to register online by October 31 to beat the November 1 price increase.  Through October 31 the marathon is $70 and the half marathon is $55.  The entry fee for both races will go up $10 as of  November 1.

Get to know the Atlanta Marathon and Half Marathon Course

If you haven’t already, check out the Atlanta Marathon and Half Marathon course maps and elevation charts.  Water and POWERade fluid stations as well as Jelly Belly® Sport Beans® stations are called out on the maps, so be sure to familiarize yourself with the various aid stations before the big day.  Click here for course maps and descriptions.

Switching Races

Perhaps your training is going really well (or maybe not as well as you hoped), regardless, you have the option to switch races during the race expo at the InterContinental Hotel Buckhead until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25.  Remember, there is no switching of races available on race day, and running a race other than the one for which you are officially registered will result in disqualification.  The marathon and half marathon courses officially close at 12:30 p.m. on race day.

Tune Up for Turkey Day at the ATC’s Run Around the Rock
Test out your marathon or half marathon training on Saturday, October 31 at the Atlanta Track Club’s Run Around the Rock.  The low-key, no T-shirt event features a 5, 10, and 15 mile course as well as a one mile fun run for the kids.  The 5, 10 and 15 mile events start at 8:00 a.m. and the fun run start will immediately follow.

The event is free to Atlanta Track Club members and $10 for non- members.  For more information, visit www.atlantatrackclub.org.

Did you know…

Ever wonder what happens to all the layers of clothes that are shed in the first few miles of a running event?  All the sweatshirts, T-shirts, gloves, etc. that are ditched by runners early on in the race are collected, cleaned and distributed to various metro Atlanta homeless shelters.
