We are Spiritual Beings in need of Spiritual Nurture

I Thessalonians 5:23

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In Paul’s prayer, he states the order of our nature. Spirit, Soul, and Body

We typically think that we have a Body that houses a soul and spirit and therefore most if not all of our focus is on caring for the body.

We feed the body, exercise the body, and rest the body.

We need first and foremost to Feed The Spirit, Exercise the Spirit, and then Rest the Spirit.

I started to think about the emphasis that we typically place on the body and I thought of how I love to eat at Outback Steakhouse. I love the dark bread they bring to the table to whet the appetite. I love their thousand island dressing more than any other restaurant that I know of. And then my mouth waters to think of one of those juicy steaks and the steak fries that come with it.

As a matter of fact as I sit and type these words I am craving a meal at Outback.

That is exactly how we should crave the feeding of our spirit! To have experienced communion with God to the point that we can’t wait to sit at His table and eat what He serves. If you haven’t experienced it, it is time to give it a try.

Fasting is to the feeding of the spirit as food is to the feeding of the body.

You start with a time of going without food in order to seek the Lord by praying and Fasting and come away with a full spirit and even the physical food tastes better.

I know this seems foreign but the truth is that God has built this need into who we are. A need to commune with and spend time with Him.

Come along and give Fasting a try.

I am asking all who will to Fast and Pray one day each week. I will personally be observing my Fast from Sundown Monday through Sundown Tuesday. You can observe the same time period or a day of your choice. We are praying for revival in the Christian Community of Carroll County and we are praying for many lost people to come to know Jesus Christ through our spirit’s revival.
