Matthew 6: 2, 5, 16
2“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men.
5“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
16“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
I just realized something today that I missed on Sunday night in my teaching on fasting. Rest assured that I will go back and cover this base when we meet together again in a couple of weeks.
Look at the bolded scripture. Jesus not only expected that we would Pray and Fast. Jesus also expected that we would Give. As a matter of fact I am now convinced that Giving and Fasting add Fuel to our Prayer Life. Jesus put these items together for a reason and I believe we can learn a valuable lesson here.
More later!
