This book came as a recommendation of Bishop Robert Schnaze while I was at Convocation just a few weeks ago and deals with welcoming people into our church congregations.
I gained some good insight from this book but by in large I gained one very valuable nugget of gold. In the parable of what we have come to know as “the prodigal son” there are two sons. One who takes his inheritance while his father is still living and squander’s it on wild living. The other son stays back and works in the family farming business and he is very unhappy about the fact that his brother is treated so well when he returns.
Here is what I took from this book that is so valuable. The Father says to the son who is so upset, what I have is always available to you but your brother didn’t have that while being out of fellowship with me. (My translation)
It brought to my mind the numerous times through the years that I would whine “God, why does he get all the breaks when I am the one living for you”? So many times we get our eyes on the other person that we think is having a great life, even though they are not following God and all the time, we have direct access to the Father. I would rather have God and no earthly goods!
I give the book a 4 out of 5 rating just because of this one lesson, the rest of it was OK.
