Taking a good look at taking control…

Pollsters say that 86 percent of Americans claim to be chronically stressed out.

The New England Journal of Medicine reported that 44 percent of American adults had one or more substantial symptoms of stress following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and nine out of ten had stress reactions to some degree.

The National Center for Health Statistics reports that almost 1 million people a year lose their lives to diseases caused by unmanaged stress.

To cope we now ingest 60,000 pounds of aspirins, tranquilizers, and sleeping pills a day.

Thankfully, that’s not per person, but the sum is still staggering.

From: Who put my life on Fast Forward?

The above words are staggering, I set out this week to get some control of my life. I have a hard time saying no to good things but I must say no to some good things in order to have the best. I am tired of coming home in the evening to find my boys already in bed, there are simply too many meetings. With the technology available today we should be able to find ways to meet together in a more efficient way. I know that meetings are necessary but they are not healthy for a family when they happen every night of the week.

I love the work that God has called me too and I realize that if I am not healthy that I will not be helpful to anyone. I don’t see this as a way to get out of things but as a new start at being the best that God has called me to be.

More to come on taking control of the time God has given me.
