Book Notes: Dirty God by Johnnie Moore

Dirty God

Dirty God is a book about how God, the creator of the universe, came to earth, became one of us, and got his hands dirty. This is an outstanding book that explains and illustrates the Grace of God, the reckless grace, some would say. It is hard for a people who have been given grace to turn and give that same grace away to other human beings.

I have heard it said that you can only forgive to the degree that you have been forgiven and that tells me that many people who name the name of Christ are still walking around in guilt and heavy burdens that God has already granted forgiveness of. I want to say to you that if God has set you FREE, then you are FREE indeed. Live FREE!

Moore has done an outstanding job with a very readable book that I had a hard time putting down. It is a quick read with a powerful punch. Here are a few of the many quotes that I gleaned from “Dirty God.”

“GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU. HE knows every thought you’ve had, every step you’ve taken, every word you’ve spoken. He knows every sin, stumble, and foolish mistake you’ve ever made. He knows all things you’ve seen and done that make you want to run and hide. And yet, God loves you.”

“God doesn’t expect you to be perfect, but he does insist on complete honesty. The sooner we give up the illusion that the Church must be perfect in order to love it, the sooner we quit pretending and start admitting we’re all imperfect and need grace. This is the beginning of real community. Every church could put out a sign “No perfect people need apply. This is a place only for those who admit they are sinners, need grace, and want to grow.”

“Because of God’s grace, Jesus is a “friend of sinners.”

“God believes in us, and grace is his way of demonstrating it.”

5 out of 5 stars.
