Book Notes: Four Blood Moons by John Hagee

four blood moons

I had no intentions of reading this book until recently when several of my church members started asking me questions about it. There has begun a pretty interested group who want to know if there is anything to what Hagee says in this book, Is something about to happen that will change the world in a significant way?

I have to admit, when I started reading the book I was encouraged. I really thought that Hagee had picked up on something that was new, something that would tell us that the end of the world as we know it, the coming of Christ for His church, that this time was near. But at the end of the book it just wasn’t there.

Hagee’s argument is not that the Four consecutive Blood Moons hasn’t taken place many times, rather his argument is that this is the 4th time in 500 years that this event has taken place on the date of Jewish Festivals. His argument is that each of the previous 3 times significant events in the life of Israel and the world have taken place and that the 4th time something is bound to happen.

There are typical Hagee traits throughout the book. Let me explain it this way. I like John Hagee, I love to hear him preach, he has a lot of passion and i despise to hear someone preach who has no passion for what they are saying. However, the thing that bothers me is that Hagee is quick to say, “I’m right and everyone else is wrong.” In chapter 6 of this book Hagee makes the argument for a pre-millenial rapture of the church. In other words, Jesus will come back and call the church home to heaven before the tribulation in this world occurs. Hagee may be right, mark it down, I said he may be right. However, I am not convinced by what I read in scripture that the church will be raptured out. All I am sure of is that God will take us home at His appointed time and until then we have work to do. Hagee go so far though as is his style to basically say if you don’t believe it his way that you’re not Christian and you’re not going to heaven. The Bible is clear, the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ so I would disagree with Hagee completely on this issue.

I learned a few things that I did not know by reading this book. I have grown in my understanding of the Bible by reading this book but it has nothing to do with the Four Blood Moons. It has to do with items that Hagee never intended the book to be about and that’s ok.

Throughout the book Hagee insists that something major is about to happen. He insists the Four Blood Moons hold significance and hints throughout the book that it is the end of the world as we know it. He does stop short of actually predicting the end of the world and he is wise to do so. Even though I was not impressed by the book I am greatly disappointed in Hagee’s ending to the book. I will include that for you here.

ARE YOU READY? The fourth series of Four Blood Moons is coming! They are extremely rare even by scientific standards. God is shouting to us, “Something big is about to happen!” However, the coming Four Blood Moons of 2014–15 does not mean the Rapture is going to happen
during that time. Why? Because the Rapture could happen at any moment. What they are telling us is that God is getting ready to change the course of human history once again. He is preparing to display the next series of signs in the heavens. What is going to happen? The question is not about the terminal generation or when Israel’s enemies are going to attack next—the question is are you ready to meet the Lord? Are your children ready? Watch and pray! Be prepared, like the five wise virgins who made sure they had extra oil for their lamps (Matthew 25:13). The Church is soon to leave the world. We are seeing signs of the end of this age.”

Hagee leaves us with what we already know. Jesus is coming soon. The ending of this book as I see it is a disclaimer that everything said in the book is really nothing new and it leaves me with a really bad taste. It tastes like book sales.

That’s just the way I see it, I welcome your comments.

Jesus is coming soon and until He does we have lots of work to do.
