Book Review: Love Does by Bob Goff

Lovedoes

If you need a breath of fresh air, if you need some encouragement, if you want to hear someone talk about the Gospel who isn’t a preacher or a theologian, this is an awesome choice.

Bob Goff is a lawyer, he isn’t a preacher and he doesn’t get preachy in the book. In this book Bob tells us that life is not about following rules, life is not about keeping score, and life is not about being right. Life is about loving people. Not telling people that God loves them but showing people they are loved, that we are the hands and feet of Jesus.

It is an easy read but it isn’t just fluff, it is anything but fluff. There is so much truth that is applied so easily if we will just look for the moments that we all have every day. Bob shares a lot of personal life stories in the book that make it hard to put down. I laughed and I shed some tears but most of all I have grown in my understanding and love of Christ.

Here are a few favorite quotes from the book.

“He will wreck your American dream and help you find your actual dream.”

“We don’t like to put hands and feet on love. When love is a theory, it’s safe, it’s free of risk. But love in the brain changes nothing.”

“I learned that faith isn’t about knowing all of the right stuff or obeying a list of rules. It’s something more, something more costly because it involves being present and making a sacrifice.”

“God doesn’t want failure to shut us down. God didn’t make it a three-strikes-and-you’re-out sort of thing. It’s more about how God helps us dust ourselves off so that we can swing for the fences again. And all of this without keeping a meticulous record of our screw-ups.”

“I used to think God guided us by opening and closing doors, but now I know sometimes God wants us to kick some doors down.”

“I used to think you had to be special for God to use you, but now I know you simply need to say yes.”

I actually tweeted a lot of quotes while reading through the book and tagged them #LoveDoes. Feel free to follow me @ronnie24317 on twitter.

This is an outstanding book that anyone would benefit from reading. I dare you to get a copy and start changing the lives of people all around you because you will get a new passion for life while reading it.
