Let’s face it. Normal is not working very well. It is normal for marriages to end in divorce. It is normal for people to struggle financially. It is sadly normal for people to believe in God and yet live as if He doesn’t exist.
Normal isn’t working by anybody’s standards.
Most people I know believe there is more to having a relationship with God than what they are experiencing. However, these people either don’t know how to have a more dynamic walk with God or they just really don’t care because they haven’t really seen it work for anyone else either.
Jesus said, The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. (John 10:10)
Does it seem to you that there is something terribly wrong with how most people in the church today live negative, boring, somewhat defeated lives? In light of Jesus words promising a rich and satisfying life, this is just not what I am witnessing on a wide basis.
I believe that our relationship with our Father, The Creator of the universe should be exciting and a life that keeps us looking forward to the next great adventure with Him. When I gave my life to Christ the Holy Spirit took up residence in my life. How could life be boring with God living inside of us?
There has to be more, there has to be a plan, there has to be something in the Bible, Gods written word that will lead us in the right direction. There has to be a design from the grand designer, there must be a way for God and His people to be in communion in such a way that we don’t live defeated lives.
As a follower of Jesus, after reading God’s word these past many years, and after having studied under some of the greatest scholars of our time, I believe there is a plan. I believe there are clearly written instructions for us as Christ followers to live above the level of mediocrity. I believe there are instructions for us to live with joy in all circumstances. I believe there are instructions that tell us how we can live with God’s peace that passes all understanding. I believe we are intended to live a victorious Christian life.
This is what our New Years Series, Best Year Ever, is all about. We believe 2019 can be the best year you have ever had. It won’t take away your problems but it will help you to thrive in the midst of those trials. At the four churches that David, Tim, and I pastor, we are going to invite you to come on a journey with us. We are going to teach you what the scripture has to say about living victorious. Will it be easy? The answer is anything but easy, but then anything worth having is worth working hard for.
