Maybe we don’t need a vaccine…thoughts today April 9th, 2020

Maybe we don’t need a vaccine? I am sure many of you will think I have lost my mind. Of course we need a vaccine so we can get back to the crazy busy journey to oblivion that we were on, right?

As I was having my time in His Word this morning I read a quote by a famous wrestler of all people, Hulk Hogan. Now I know we probably can’t take much of our theology from pro entertainment wrestlers but Hogan is on to something here.

“Maybe we don’t need a vaccine, Maybe we need to take this time of isolation from the distractions of the world and have a personal revival where we focus on the ONLY thing in the world that really matters. Jesus,” Hulk Hogan

Some of my church friends will send me angry disagreement letters and that’s ok, we will agree to disagree. But hear what I am saying and take a real good look at the world around us and yes take a real good look even inside your church. God is not and has not been number one on much of anybody’s list for a long time. Everything under the sun is more important than winning souls. New cars, bigger houses, more hobbies, sports, movies, leisure activities, travel, food, you name it. Look around us today. I know I’m in the minority, I know many people will write me off their list for sharing my thoughts but I don’t think we need a vaccine near as much as we need time with Jesus.

I have pastor friends who no longer believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus. I have pastor friends who no longer believe the Bible is our ultimate authority. I have pastor friends who teach that sex outside of marriage is ok. If these things are being taught by my pastor friends what in the world must our church members believe? Well, that’s easy, just look around.

Pornography in our world is everywhere, children are intentionally being exposed to it at younger and younger ages. Alcohol is not only king in the world of the unsaved, it is rampant and flowing freely in the church world as well. Marijuana is becoming legal in more and more states. Abortion is not just accepted but celebrated even in the church in many instances. I could go on and on and on but I won’t because you would just stop reading.

More than a vaccine, we need a revival of our souls. We need a get on our knees and cry out to God for our own revival. We need to remember where our blessing has come from. We need to understand that we will now go back on the manna, not the best that God desires for us to have but the manna that will sustain us while we wander through this wilderness for the next 40 years. We are grieving right now, we are grieving what we have lost but we have not yet grieved with God for having lost His blessing. We haven’t repented for spending all that we have earned on ourselves and ignoring giving back to Him the “First Part.” We have not grieved the fact that we have built fine houses for ourselves while neglecting God’s House. We have not grieved that our hobbies and harried lives have gotten all the attention while God has gotten whatever has been left over.

We have not repented yet because quite frankly, it hasn’t hurt enough yet. These are not just my thoughts, they are my thoughts based on what I have grieved for many years now and for what I have studied and given my life to.

Haggai 1:2-11  (NLT)
2 “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: The people are saying, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the Lord.’”
3 Then the Lord sent this message through the prophet Haggai: 4 “Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins? 5 This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Look at what’s happening to you! 6 You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes!
7 “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Look at what’s happening to you! 8 Now go up into the hills, bring down timber, and rebuild my house. Then I will take pleasure in it and be honored, says the Lord. 9 You hoped for rich harvests, but they were poor. And when you brought your harvest home, I blew it away. Why? Because my house lies in ruins, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, while all of you are busy building your own fine houses. 10 It’s because of you that the heavens withhold the dew and the earth produces no crops. 11 I have called for a drought on your fields and hills—a drought to wither the grain and grapes and olive trees and all your other crops, a drought to starve you and your livestock and to ruin everything you have worked so hard to get.”
