The Appalachian Regional Blood Services recruits blood donors and collects blood products for area hospitals in 32 counties in Virginia and 11 counties in West Virginia. The central office is located in Roanoke, and the blood services staff rely on volunteers and donors from local communities to keep the area’s blood supply adequate to meet emergency and routine needs for trauma victims, surgery patients as well as treatment support for cancer and leukemia patients.
The Appalachian Blood Services must collect approximately 75,000 pints of blood this year from local citizens in order to meet the need for safe and reliable blood products in our communities.
