The Children of Israel: The Children of Today?

Numbers 14: 1-4

1 Then the whole community began weeping aloud, and they cried all night. 2 Their voices rose in a great chorus of protest against Moses and Aaron. “If only we had died in Egypt, or even here in the wilderness!” they complained. 3 “Why is the Lord taking us to this country only to have us die in battle? Our wives and our little ones will be carried off as plunder! Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?” 4 Then they plotted among themselves, “Let’s choose a new leader and go back to Egypt!”

Complaining and Grumbling Characterized God’s People While They Were in The Wilderness: What has Changed?

The children of Israel in verse 4 decided to choose a new leader and go back into Egypy, Into Bondage: What has changed?

These are the same people who have just witnessed the Awesomeness of God. The plagues of frogs, gnats, blood. I was reminded just this week while out running in the evening of the gnats. Every few seconds I would run through these swarms of gnats. they were everywhere. In my face, on my arms, on top of my bald head. Wosrt of all they flew into my eyes and mouth. It was then I was reminded of how horrible it would have been to be in the midst of a plague of gnats.

These folks had just gone through the Sea, only they were not swimming, they were walking on dry ground.

How could it be that these people (God’s People) could forget His blessing and provision so quickly?

But then, is it any different today?

How often do we complain, choose a new leader, (someone other than God) and walk right back into the bondage?

The Blessing of God often causes people to walk away from the best things of God, expecially church attendance.
