Council (Worship) Meeting

Nehemiah 4: 6 (NIV)

So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.

New American Standard Version

So we rebuilt the wall, and all the wall was joined together to half its height; for the people had a mind to work.

Tonight was our first Council meeting at First UMC Hillsville for the New Year. I would have to say it was one of the best meetings I have been privileged to be a part of. We actually had a worship service, in my opinion. We did our usual business and that was great in itself. But then when the business at hand was over, Oliver passed out paper and crayons.

This is when the fun began. We were asked to write our role in Council at the top of the sheet. At the bottom we were to write one main responsibility that came with that role. Then we wrote down a gift that we have been blessed with in that role.  At that point Oliver passed out boxes with ribbon and asked us to fold up our papers and place them in the box and follow him to the sanctuary. See the above photo. We placed our gifts at the foot of the cross and Oliver proceeded to connect us by a “Lifeline” a rope I had used in the sermon on Sunday night. He then tied the lifeline we were holding to the rope attached to the cross. We are Connected, we placed our gifts at the foot of the cross and we had prayer together. the Spirit was certainly present with us tonight.

The people of First Hillsville have a mind to work and we are working in 2010 with all our heart to see that men, women, girls, and boys come to know and follow Jesus Christ.

God is at Work!
