OK I am working on the new church site for First United Methodist Church Hillsville called FUMC Out Of The Box Worship Center. If you haven’t heard, this will be out 2nd location for FUMC Hillsville. We will launch with a worship service sometime later this year, 2010.
In preparation for this move I have been given the gift of a Coach. This is someone who has done what we are preparing to do and he will walk through this process with me. His name is Paul Nixon and Paul lives in the Washington D.C. area. Here is a little about Paul.
PAUL NIXON served on the pastoral team of Gulf Breeze UMC in Florida as they became one of the pioneer multi-site churches in United Methodism, developing worship communities in three locations. The Gulf Breeze East Campus that Paul opened in 1999 now runs nearly 1000 in weekend worship attendance. Today Paul consults with churches and judicatories across the United States and Canada, often dealing with strategies around expansion to new ministry sites.
His 2002 book, Fling Open the Doors, remains on the short-list of must-read books related to multi-site ministry. Paul Nixon is author of four books on church leadership, the latest of which is titled: Finding Jesus on the Metro: And Other Surprises Doing Church in a New Day. Paul serves part-time on the Path 1 team and part-time as a mission developer working with young urban adults in the Washington DC area. Previously he served as Director of Congregational Development for Alabama-West Florida Conference and as the founding pastor of the Soundside Campus of Gulf Breeze UMC in northwest Florida.
The first think Paul suggested I do is read the book “Exponential”, I am and I am loving it.
