Good people don’t go to heaven, forgiven people do.
For so many years of my Christian life I lived in fear. It wasn’t a fear of ghosts, it wasn’t a fear of people. It was a fear of if I died, would the good in my life outweigh the bad?
You know, I tried hard, I read my bible, I went to Bible Study. As a matter of fact, I went to church every single time the doors were open for anything. Sunday morning, back Sunday night, Tuesday night was visitation night, Wednesday night mid-week bible study.
I made sure that I said my prayers every day and I was very conscious to ask God over and over to forgive me.
I have some great news.
Good people don’t go to heaven, forgiven people do.
Isaiah 40:1-6a (NLT)
1 “Comfort, comfort my people,”
says your God.
2 “Speak tenderly to Jerusalem.
Tell her that her sad days are gone
and her sins are pardoned.
Yes, the Lord has punished her twice over
for all her sins.”
3 Listen! It’s the voice of someone shouting,
“Clear the way through the wilderness
for the Lord!
Make a straight highway through the wasteland
for our God!
4 Fill in the valleys,
and level the mountains and hills.
Straighten the curves,
and smooth out the rough places.
5 Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
and all people will see it together.
The Lord has spoken!” 6 A voice said, “Shout!”
I asked, “What should I shout?”
John 13: 31-38 NLT
31 As soon as Judas left the room, Jesus said, “The time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory, and God will be glorified because of him. 32 And since God receives glory because of the Son,[i] he will soon give glory to the Son. 33 Dear children, I will be with you only a little longer. And as I told the Jewish leaders, you will search for me, but you can’t come where I am going. 34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
36 Simon Peter asked, “Lord, where are you going?”
And Jesus replied, “You can’t go with me now, but you will follow me later.”
37 “But why can’t I come now, Lord?” he asked. “I’m ready to die for you.”
38 Jesus answered, “Die for me? I tell you the truth, Peter—before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.
