A friend told me I might enjoy this book after reading “The Hunger Games.” It is not the same story but there are similarities. The story is set in a society of captivity. The world has gone through something that changed the way people live, their freedom is taken away, especially the women. It is a story that takes you back to a time when women had no rights or very little, yet it is more severe than that. Women are used to basically keep the population alive. It is an interesting book, well written. It is for mature audiences, there is language used in a sexual nature but it is used to illustrate the life women were forced to live and not in an erotic way.
I certainly took away some useful stuff for lack of a better word. Probably the greatest lesson I learned is from the following quote in the book.
“We lived, as usual, by ignoring. Ignoring isn’t the same as ignorance, you have to work at it.”
This speaks volumes to me, this is why I read. We as a society have learned to ignore what we don’t want to see, what we don’t want to deal with. Otherwise there would not be so much misery in the world. This one quote was worth the price of the book.
