One of the best books I have read on the topic of prayer. Matter of fact, this is a game changer for me when it comes to understanding that I have been praying prayers that are just too small. By small I mean, I have learned to pray prayers that are bold, prayers that honor God, prayers that when they are answered, people will say that had to be the hand of God.
The Circle Maker is about a man named Honi, a story that took place between the time of the Old Testament and the New Testament. The story is recorded by historian, Josephus. The people of Israel were in a drought and Honi was known to pray for rain so the people called on him to pray. Honi came, drew a circle in the sand and said in essence, “God, I’m not leaving this circle until you send rain.” It was a prayer, a bold prayer, one where if God didn’t come through Honi was going to look silly. It wasn’t a selfish prayer, it wasn’t a prayer for anything other than a true need. God answered his prayer after Honi refined his prayer two times.
