Amazon, I have an idea…

Shop with your phone

It amazes me how I once would long to go into a good book store and browse for hours. I would go row after row, book by book, find one and go sit down and read a few pages to see if it was really what I wanted. I would literally plan trips around where the best book stores were located. I could be driving down the road in a new place and see a book store that looked like it had a great selection and I would turn around and go back just to browse.

There was a time when I said I would never lay down the printed book to read a digital book. Never say never.

I was a little curious about Kindle readers but not curious enough to invest in one but in 2009 I graduated from Seminary and one of my best friends bought me one for a graduation gift. To make a long story short, it didn’t take long until I was reading everything on Kindle. From books to newspapers, to magazines , and even PDF files. That was in 2009.

In 2013 I have no desire at all to stop and browse through a book store and haven’t really in a couple of years, amazing. I have no desire to read from a printed book, amazing. Matter of fact, I wish that every book that I own, more than 5,000 of them were on my Kindle reading devices.

I love the ability to carry around a vast library on one small, lightweight device.

But for Amazon, here is an idea. I love to sit and read a great book and drink coffee. Coffee shops are still pretty popular in many communities and their popularity is growing. The only thing I do in a book store now, if I find myself in one is look at books I like and then go to Amazon.com and purchase the Kindle book. We could create an Amazon Virtual Experience and make it Real.

Kindle Books and Coffee by Amazon

Amazon isn’t in the coffee business but you have many sellers who are. We open up the shop, sell great coffee, provide comfortable seating, even a kids room for the parents who need a coffee and book break, and set up some type of displays of the top sellers in different genres. Make it a fun experience where customers can scan the bar codes of what they want and it will immediately downloaded to their device. The only real product we are handling is the coffee. We are providing a place for people to work, to fellowship, to relax, and to make new friends. People need to get out of the house and out of the office and this would give them a good excuse to do more of just that.

This needs some more work but I think I’m on to something. What do you think Amazon?
