“Remember Who You Are”

We started our series “Change The World” on Sunday July 3rd and what an awesome start. Below is a link to the sermon and notes to follow along with. I hope you will spread the Word, God is Alive and we need to “Remember Who We Are”.

Romans 12: 1&2

1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

In the Bible when a sacrifice was made, it was total commitment. When the people of that day heard Paul say “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice” they pictured an animal placed on the altar and it literally gave its life.

As Christians, Paul is encouraging, literally the translation here is BEGGING

Begging us to do what? To live out what God has called us to, begging us to live up to our name Christian.

Each day, we have an opportunity to change the world!

Be.

Romans 12: 4-8

4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. 6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

Your foot can’t function without your leg!

Your hand can’t function without your arm!

Your mouth should never function without your brain!

Has God Gifted you?

to speak

to serve

to teach

to encourage

to give

to lead

to show kindness

“Be who God has called you to be”

“Remember who you are and act accordingly”

Why – Because you can change the world!

Go.

Romans 12: 9-10

9 Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. 10 Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

Luke 4: 18-19, Jesus said

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,
that the blind will see,
that the oppressed will be set free,
19 and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.

We as His people are to Share the Good News and set the Captives Free.

Who are the people in your church or community who would benefit most from a kind visit?

What do you hear God urging you to do, be or change?

Mike Slaughter

“We have overemphasized getting people into heaven to the neglect of getting heaven into earth. True church growth is not about how many people attend each weekend. The true greatness of any local church is measured by how many people serve the marginalized. Jesus had a church of only 120 members when he left planet earth. By most church growth standards, this membership would be deemed utter failure. But Jesus used a very different measure. To Jesus, the church was an active verb and not a passive noun. His followers practiced mission evangelism. They understood that the mission was not to get the world into the church but to get the church into the world!”

What is it that God has Gifted you to do?

Remember who you are, Go to those who are hurting and in need, don’t just say I love you!

Why? Because you can change the world!

Do.

Romans 12:11

11 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.

The Can’t Do it’s –

I can’t do that

You can’t do that

That can’t be done

What an incredible opportunity to be the church!

Go. Be. Do.
