Wild Goose Chase

Wild Goose Chase is a book by Mark Batterson, I won it in a local competition! I picked it up and started reading it this morning and it is just what I needed. The Holy Spirit or simply Holy Spirit is God living in and through us and that alone is EXCITING.

“Take the Holy Spirit out of the equation of my life, and it would be b-o-r-i-n-g. Add Him to the equation of your life, and anything can happen. You never know who you’ll meet, where you’ll go, or what you’ll do. All bets are off.”

“If you describe your relationship with God as anything less than adventurous, then maybe you think you’re following the Spirit but have actually settled for something less – something I call inverted Christianity. Instead of following the Spirit, we invite the Spirit to follow us. Instead of serving God’s purposes, we want him to serve our purposes. And while this may seem like a subtle distinction, it makes an ocean of difference. The result of this inverted relationship with God is not just a self absorbed spirituality that leaves us feeling empty, it’s also the difference between spiritual boredom and spiritual adventure.”

I need this book to remind me that the daily interruptions are actually Holy Spirit interruptions. The times when someone asks for help or just for a few minutes of time are Intentional Efforts on the part of God to spend time with me. We get so involved with the daily routines we have either set for ourselves of someone else has set for us, that we miss the opportunities to see God. Especially during this season and the current economic situation in which we find ourselves, it is easy to brush aside every attempt Holy Spirit makes to get out attention.

Life really is about knowing God and getting prepared to spend Eternity with Him. Lets make a vow to take every interruption that comes and look for what God is saying to us. It could just change our boring day into a God Encounter.

Ronnie, thanks for the insightful post. I work on the Threads team at LifeWay. Mark Batterson has partnered with Threads and is writing his Bible study based on Wild Goose Chase that will release from Threads in May 09. I just thought you might be interested. Mark’s other book, In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day is also very good; the Bible study from Threads is called Chase the Lion. You can read more at http://www.threadsmedia.com/studies. Thanks!- Jenny
